I find these few negative reviews rather funny. I will comment on them after the more important stuff, like the actual quality you will find at LUX.
I have been coming here since 2003. It was a tiny box back then, but one of the first and only places one could find a Dirty Chai. In fact, it was one of the only places you could find good coffee or a barista in Phoenix back then. Sorry, starbucks is NOT good coffee, so that doesn't count.
That being said, it has grown, expanded and pretty much delivers one of everything you could want. The ingredients are always fresh... baking goods constantly. They do not EVER skimp on quality of ingredients. The prices are just ridiculously UNDER priced for what you are getting.
The mixology bar or "bar" if you will is LOADED with top shelf booze and fresh ingredients as well... I know this because every morning when I go to get my coffee, the morning bartenders are squeezing fresh juice from just about everything you can imagine.
The breakfast items are amazing and consistent every time... and again, totally affordable. Coffee for a cup is $2? Where do you even get a $2 cup of coffee anymore? Here. So do the baristas a favor and put that extra dollar you just saved in that ceramic jar just to the side of the register, they will appreciate it.
Dinner is equally fresh. They offer a spartan menu of gourmet items made with FRESH ingredients handled with care. Mac N Cheese is always on the menu for $5 - it has almost made me a fat kid it's so addicting and good.
It seems most people complain about it being too crowded or overly hipster... I mean seriously folks, it is good. It is popular. So there may be a lot of people there. You might have to park on the street and walk 500 feet to get there. You aren't going to die. The hip people, the yuppies, the business professionals, the bohemes, the families, they aren't going to hurt you. You don't need to waste time criticizing people, that is just too hypocritical to your point. Just be yourself like everyone else is.
and to the service... they hire awesome people here. They are are highly skilled at what they do. I find them a pleasant bunch. Most of them are young, so things like fashion and music are important to them... maybe that is why you think they are overly hip. They are not uptight or mean by any measure. If you get bad service here it is probably because you are being an entitled asshole perhaps.
Bottom line, it is pretty much the first and best in Phoenix and still upholds the quality it started with. It has grown just as much as Phoenix has.
