| - The Mandarin Oriental's spa facilities on their own deserve 5 stars and more...
My spa treatment, however was mediocre. I admit I did have high expectations as I did extensive research on their services and was read the positive reviews on the Time Ritual. Also, the MO spa is the most gorgeous (and expensive) spa in Las Vegas....
I had the 2 hour Time Ritual with Jeffrey.
When we sat down to discuss what treatments I wanted for my two hours...(by the way, this cuts into your treatment time....) I told him I was hoping to get a facial, wrap and massage. If we had enough time, a brow wax. He responded by essentially telling me we'd be doing a massage and facial and a scrub, which I agreed to. (I had just spent an hour relaxing in the amenity area, I would have agreed to paint his nails at this point.)
So we got started....A lot of the treatment time was him waiting outside for me to "de-robe, flip over...." 5 minutes later....etc. Also, in my extreme relaxed state, it was still noticable how much time he spent setting things up, the shower, the towels, the products, etc. Don't they have the ability to do this beforehand? He also was terribly sick and had a cough...I thought this would stop... but no...he coughed...the...whole...two hours..... I did feel sorry for him but it was just unpleasant.
Honestly, none of this would have bothered me if I had received a good facial. This was the only part of the treatment I really cared about. I think the facial part of it lasted for about 50 minutes. It was very relaxing... but I specifically asked for extractions as I have horrible pores. In fact when we were discussing the treatment I said this was my main priority. When I did, he told me "when we put you under the light I will see what needs to be done." He didn't do any extractions except 2-3 on my chin... and my t-zone is my worst and obviously needed area. I completely understand he's not a dermatologist but I've had better at a Bliss Spa..
In the end it's like he realized there was still time and he gave me a scalp massage but first pulled my hair tie out along with lots of my hair (at that point my hair had been wet, with lots of products pushed around in it.) This was unpleasant. He also still has my hair tie. :(
My treatment was at 3:00 (started at 3:15 after everything was said and done...) and I got all the way back to the ladies area at 4:50. When you book 2 hours of time and get back even a minute early it just gives you the vibe they weren't really there to give you 100%. The whole reason someone would want to book a 2 hour time ritual is so that they could have the freedom to do whatever treatments they want in, and as many that will fit in that time frame. I'm sure that with a different therapist, this might have been a better experience though. Everyone else that I encountered there was attentive and hospitable.
The reason for the 3 stars is my husband said his massage was good. Note, there is only one gender neutral area, with four seats so I'd recommend going with your same sex friends if you're planning to enjoy the amenities for a few hours. (The views are fantastic.)
