  • This vote is for service. The only reason I'm voting 1 star instead of 0 is because they actually fixed the issue. BUT, you have to hear this story. My 2002 Sonata temperature gauge was reading hot, in the red. This was after replacing the water pump, thermostat, radiator and sensors at other shops. When I called Alex, the Service Adviser, he said if the ground leads are dirty, it could cause the temperature gauge to read incorrectly. The next thing to do would be to clean all the 15 or so ground leads in the car. Apparently, this model and year has been know to have this problem. I did confirm this problem on the Internet. So, I dropped off the car and they did their standard diagnosis. When Alex called back, he said that not only would I need to clean all the ground wires, but I would also need a new alternator and battery. Total price in the neighborhood of $800. I said that the alternator and battery were already checked out by previous shops and found to be in fine condition. He said that his service department were the experts in this (implying that other shops don't know what they are doing). I told him just to clean the ground wires. They did that. When I picked up the car, it was not washed and there were dirty hand smudges on both sides of the fenders next to the hood. The service techs did not bother to wipe up their mess. Coincidentally, the radio antenna is malfunctioning and only goes down half way. This many not have been caused by Centennial. When I road tested the car, the temperature gauge worked fine. I then re-confirmed with Sun Auto (who had replaced the water pump and checked the electrical system) that my battery and alternator are just fine. Bottom line is that the issue was fixed for $250. But if I had taken Alex's advice to replace the alternator and battery, that would have cost me hundreds of dollars more when it was not needed.
