| - This really was about to be a 2 star review, but an upgrade saved the day. Regardless, I'm still pretty disappointed in the Monte Carlo.
I was actually married at the Monte Carlo in 2006, and had a huge suite. I'd only been back to visit friends who stayed there a couple of times over the years, and thought it was ok for the price point and of course the location is great.
So, when I checked in, I had relatively high hopes. I knew it wasn't going to be the Wynn, but I didn't expect a run down, old room, where the furniture was chipped, scuffed, and everything (except for the flat screen tv) looked just worn. It was seriously like staying in a Red Roof Inn. I was doubly disappointed because the check in agent went on and on about how great the room was and how he hooked me up. Uh, no. The room hasn't been updated since the Monte Carlo opened, I'm sure- and it showed.
I sat on the bed and just knew I'd be upset if I stayed in that room, given it was supposed to be a birthday "staycation"- a gift to myself. I called the front desk to express my disappointment. The agent handled it well and offered to upgrade me to a junior suite for $30. Done.
The junior suite was MUCH nicer- the decor was more modern, the room was huge- nice living room area, mini fridge (no microwave or mini bar, oddly), big bathroom, great view, and even a half bath at the entrance. My only real complaints with this room was that there were no outlets near the bed/nightstands, and they provided very few towels. Otherwise, it was a good room and a huge improvement.
So, the Monte Carlo saved their rating, but seriously, update those rooms. I know this isn't a 5 star property, but they should be a bit ashamed of themselves and the condition of the regular rooms.
