Really loved the cozy kitchen feeling of the this place. I've been meaning to get to Cafe Du Jour for over a year now and I'm so happy I finally made it. The room was warm and tiny, maybe 6- 8 tables total and smelled awesome. We had an 8pm reservation and maybe that was kind of late for Wednesday because there was only one other table occupied. It ended up feeling like we were having a special meal cooked and served by a private chef, especially since they let me mix and match with the very tiny menu and it was BYOB so we had our favorite cab. We probably got a littte lucky on that front, but the meal was all talent and quality.
The baked brie served with apples and baguette was a classic, but perfectly done and exactly what we wanted for an app and really enhanced "the eating in your favorite cook's kitchen" feeling.
My scallops in a tomato basil emulsion with champagne sauce were so good, the flavors were so intense that I really didn't mind that they weren't as perfectly cooked as the polenta squares, which weren't typically served with that dish, but I thought sounded more fun than rice pilaf.
The rice pilaf turned out to be pretty great though because my Dad subbed out the couscous for that with his salmon and zucchini which were perfectly cooked and scrumptious.
The flourless chocolate cake at the end was sinful and a perfect compliment to help us finish the wine. They even put a little candle in it since it was my birthday. I'll for sure be back, probably before it's even nice enough to sit on what looked to be a fantastic patio.
