| - Some of you know my real last name. It is Polish and difficult for Americans to pronounce. Some of you also know that I lived in Central Europe for two years. Thus, I have thankfully experienced authentic Polish cuisine. Walking into S&D reminds me of being back in Kraków! Pleasant staff chatting in Polish, magazines with extraneous amounts of the letter "z.", and the smell of delicious pierogi!
I always pick up a few candy bars and other Polish food items, but I usually go there for lunch. My favorite items are the (authentic) halusky with farmer's cheese, and the kraut/mushroom pierogi.
After I'm finished, I also grab some frozen pierogi from the freezer and order some sausage from the deli. The staff is always helpful.
So why the docked star? First of all, sometimes service in the lunch area is painfully slow. Also, mostly on weekends, often half the lunch menu is unavailable by noon! I realize this is because S&D is popular and they use fresh ingredients. But I love my brunch halusky and am disappointed when it isn't available.
Overall, however, I adore this place and stop in every time I am in the Strip District.
