  • I was immediately overwhelmed when I walked into Point G - in a good way. My eyes were drawn to the macaron tree, which was more incredible than any Christmas tree. Yes, better than the tree in Times Square, or in the Walnut Room in Chicago's Macy's, even better than the birth of Jesus in the manger. The colors! The flavors! I wanted to impulsively ask for one of each flavor, but since they are $1.65 each, I thought it best to ask, "How many different flavors do you have?" "Forty." Okay, deep breath. I knew I could handle this. This was not my first rodeo bingeing on desserts. You've got to understand something: These ain't your ordinary Chips A'Hoy. The girl behind the counter was friendly and showed me that they have three size containers. I went with the box of 20, for $28. So I basically got to try half of their flavors. The Honey Violet was one of my favorites, because not only did it taste delicious, but it was decorated like a bumble bee. I'm always intrigued by the more unique flavors. Some of my favorites were: Vodka, Orange Blossom, and Lavender Blueberry. There wasn't a bad one in the bunch, but at Point G, the CafĂ© Espresso had a nice coffee bean bite to it. Shockingly, these travel exceptionally well! I kept the boxes in a cooler (no ice), and we drove nine hours to Pittsburgh, and not a single macaron suffered. Most even made it all the way to Cleveland, back home to Chicago with us, AND then lasted in the refrigerator for about a week. I don't know what I'm more impressed with, how fresh the macarons stayed, or the fact that I didn't eat all of these before crossing the border.
