| - Car shopping can be intimidating for a few reasons. Paramount among them is the idea that someone who knows "the game" is going to rip you off. It's easy to lose track of numbers.
I went in because they had a car we were interested in, and asked them to give me a price on my car to buy it or trade it in.
I was given a (low) price - and I do not say that as a matter of opinion. I already had outright purchase offers from other dealers and they were far better than the one they gave me here. That, in itself, isn't terrible.
I was told, however, that, "We don't appraise cars." Excuse me? I understand if the place doesn't want to take cars that aren't trade-ins, it that isn't what I was told. I was told they didn't appraise them. And then given a number. What exactly are they doing to cars that are traded in if not appraising? Guessing?
Define "appraise" for me.
Worse still, I had a sales manager sit down and tell me that the offer was low, but they could give me more on the car if I traded it in. So, what I learned:
1) Appraise doesn't mean what I thought it meant, apparently.
2) Cars magically change values when they are traded versus outright purchased.
3) I will not return to Scott Clark Toyota.
