Initially was quoted $145.00 for one ceiling fan installation. Technician showed up on time, very polite and knowledgeable but told me I need a new "pancake box" which is the metal ceiling fan box that mounts to the studs. The technician said the existing box was not strong enough to hold the fan I had purchased and recommended to be changed out. I said "ok" what is the price. I was quoted $90.00. I thought wow, that is pricey but I went ahead with it. After the bedroom fan was changed I had the tech look at my living room fan which continually had a ticking noise. He again recommended I change the ceiling fan box out to one he recommended. Ok, no problem if that is what was needed to secure the fan and eliminate the ticking noise. Again quoted another $90.00 for a new box plus another $75.00 to take down and reinstall the existing fan. Total bill was $422.00 to install one fan and reinstall another fan.
Having been a little skeptical on paying $90.00 for each ceiling fan box mount I went to Home Depot this morning just to check and see what they were charging for the same box. Yes, to my surprise Hope Depot was only charging $3.29 per ceiling fan box. Wow, talk about a mark up!! I was taken to the cleaners paying $90.00 each:( I do not believe I will be using this company again. I am all for paying a good price for products and services rendered, but paying $90.00 for a box costing $3.22 is highway robbery!
