So I just posted the same review on OpenTable (and I don't review often), but I felt compelled to let people know of my experience given the generally highly favorable reviews of Sage:
I went to Sage with 2 friends after reading good reviews on Yelp. The service was overly attentive - pre-bussing tables before the table was finished with a course, pushing drink refills before I had finished a round, repeatedly asking if I was done before I had finished - while some may appreciate the attention, my friends and I were put off by the rushed feeling. The food was also just okay - I had the octopus appetizer and barramundi, both of which were overcooked. The smoked cod that one of my friends had was excellent, but the steak my other friend ordered came at least medium well when he ordered medium rare. I suspect that is because we did not finish our first courses at the rapid pace they expected, so they mis-timed the cooking of the fish and steak and in the process of keeping them warm likely overcooked them. Still, I lived in Manhattan for 12 years and I've been to many restaurants at the same price point as Sage, and I would have expected that the main course would not be prepared until the appetizers were cleared (especially given that all three dishes required minimal cooking time).
