| - Loved this spa! =)
It was the bf's birthday so I decided to book us massages since he was complaining of back pain. I shopped around other spas on the strip and most of them A)charged a service charge of 18% or more, B)would only allow guests of that hotel to go to the spa, C)were closed on the days we wanted to visit or D)so utterly expensive that it would have taken a small loan just to go there. And then there was Canyon Ranch in the Venetian/Palazzo. =)
Now, I'm sure there's more luxurious spas but I truly enjoyed my time here...what was supposed to be a 50 minute massage turned into a four and a half hour spa adventure. =) There are so many things to do & lots of amenities available to you that you can easily spend a good chunk of the day here. It includes:
*Keyless lockers w/robes & slippers - robes were nice & soft but I wish they had pockets; slippers were massaging to the feet and the keys are flat plastic pieces...you press it against a button on the locker & it will open/lock and only will open your locker. Neat! =)
*Vanity area - mirrors, combs, brushes, hairdryer, baby oil, baby powder, lotion, sunscreen, facewash, moisturizer, deodorant, cotton balls, q-tips, hair styling products. This area was fairly large with lots of open space
*Showers - several showers stocked with plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shower caps, razors
*Whirlpool - can seat about 3-4 but also has two spaces were people can lay/lounge in the whirlpool. Also had lounge chairs outside the whirlpool with ice cold towel for you just to lay & relax - I did this quite a few times here.
*Sauna & steam room - did not try these out
*Herbal laconium - like a less intense sauna. It's not really "herbal" but it's a dry, hot room where you can just sit & unwind...I tried it out & liked it better than a Finnish sauna since I find those a bit too hot sometimes
*Igloo room - love this! I usually hate feeling cold but this room is neat because it's not like a gush of cold on you...very gentle & great way to cool off after the whirlpool or other heated rooms. It's kept at 40-45 degrees & you can choose different aromas that spray down on you in the room. This is the only room with no seats though, which would have been nice
*Tropical showers - awesome! They are showers that release water in different ways & temperatures. You can choose a cool fog, tropical rain or Caribbean storm. I tried all three...the cool fog is nothing special but the other two are neat. The tropical rain has like animal sounds...varies the light & can go from warm-hot-cold with different amounts of water. The Caribbean storm has light & dark...sort of like lightning...the water is more consistent falling on you but there is more water than the tropical rain. It's a neat way to rinse off quickly.
*Ladies lounge - lots of plush chairs, sofas & places to lay down. They have a ton of magazines to choose from & also make available plain water, flavored water (with cucumbers or orange), flavored iced teas, buckets of ice and fruits such as apples and bananas.
*Co-ed lounge - area they take you to after your treatments. This is a very large room with tons of chairs & a fountain with drinks and fruit as well. Men & women have access to two additional rooms - the salt grotto which is a warm room you sit in with different aromas being emitted. There's also the wave room - sounds cool but really, all you do is sit in these chairs that recline you onto your back & stare at the ceiling which is a giant projection of water waves. I found this room quite relaxing actually...I felt like a fish in a pond, staring at the water moving above me. =)
After exploring all of this...I still need to talk about the treatment! I only had a massage but it was great! Room was a little small but ultra clean. My therapist was very friendly and was wonderful. I don't usually get massages but I guess I had a ton of tension in my shoulders and back - she was digging in with her elbows to get those knots out! The next day I was a little sore but I definitely felt less tense in that area. The bf had some lower back problems so they focused a lot on his back & we added muscle therapy to his - they put on this "magic" gel that alleviates the pain. He was very happy after his massage.
I checked out a lot of other spas & their prices...Canyon Ranch has comparable prices and the facilities & amenities are very nice. I didn't go to the fitness center but it was pretty big...they also had shops to purchase items as well. If you only want to use the facilities without a treatment, it's $40 a day - which I find very good because even without a spa treatment, there's tons for you to do. Another tip - if you go Tuesday to Thursday, prices are cheaper. I was going to book for a Monday but saw I could save by going Tuesday instead. They accept Spafinder gift certificates too. I think I will go here every Vegas trip from now on!! =)
