I called to schedule my 17 month old daughter's first dental appointment. The receptionist told me that they do not in fact see patients until 2-2.5 years unless there is an issue. I mentioned that the AAP and AAPD recommend first cleaning as soon as the first tooth eruption occurs, which is stated on the office website. She said they have been doing this for years and do not follow these guidelines, even though stated on their website. She said as long as I clean my daughter's teeth with "a soft brush and no toothpaste" she should be fine. I informed her that the AAP guidelines recommend using s smear of fluoride containing toothpaste at this age and that I would be finding another dental provider for my child.
