A thoroughly unprofessional chain, with some good people working there, that's how I will describe my experience.
Pros:
1) They are one of the few repair shops open on Sundays.
2) Some of the mechanics who work there are friendly and helpful. We interacted with Alex who seemed like a nice and honest guy. There was another younger manager who was nice and helpful as well, but I can't recollect his name.
Cons:
1) Manager --- Ray was totally unprofessional. Not the best person to interact with.
2) Purchase of parts --- All parts purchased at Pep boys are marked up by at least 100%. Google to find the part yourself. They also merge labour costs with the cost of parts in mysterious ways. You know it is a ripoff when you can get the part from the manufacturer at less than half the price at the dealership (and much lesser online). You surely know you are getting ripped off when pep boys insist on buying the parts for thrice the price. I will avoid them just for that.
3) Wait time and interaction at the counter: Things seemed disorganized in general. We had an appointment at 9:00 through the website. The shop opened at 10:00am. It took us more than a day to get things sorted out. But perhaps that's a one off thing.
In summary, go there if you are desperate and you don't have options. Google/Yelp for yourself, there are amazing mechanics/dealerships a few blocks away. And yes, Yelp ratings do matter.
Note: If you end up going to pep boys, Google discount coupons that will give you a 10% discount, after a 100% markup of course.
