  • I hate to admit this but I usually only see films here during Hot Docs. With so many other screens, showing most of what I want to see, being a walk from the subway, it just takes that much more effort to visit the Royal if you are coming from the Danforth. But every so often they play a film that nobody else will touch and so you have to go. It is a great retro movie house and has a touch of class about it that the Humber, Regent, Revue, Fox or Kingsway can't quite touch. Not that those cinemas aren't special too. Recommended--everyone should see a movie here at least once. And if getting to it did not require at least two TTC vehicles, I'd see more films here.
