Stopped in on a whim after a friend in my car said that she had been dying to try this place for the longest. We figured that we had a couple hours before we had to be anything to do, so we might as well stop in for a lunch.
We walked into the old restaurant and the first thing I noticed were the walls; they had signatures of famous celebrities, artists, and athletes who had stopped by for food scrawled in every corner of the place. There were only two other patrons in the place at 2pm on a Wednesday, so service was snappy and quick.
We were waited on by a couple waitresses who were pleasant and recommended us different dishes. I ended up getting the country fried steak and my friends both ordered the famous fried chicken. You get a couple sides with each order, and I figured I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't give their sweet tea a try. No more than 10 minutes later, our food came out and the portions were HUGE. My friends got three gigantic pieces of chicken each, and my steak seemed bigger than my face. We have a ton of black eye peas and mac & cheese scooped onto each of our plates; even the sweet tea came in a bigger-than-normal glass!
None of us came close to finishing our plates. The food was tasty and we were definitely happy that we stopped on by. The plates are a little expensive at $13, but the ridiculous portions more than make up for that. I would definitely come back again (next time, I'll have to try the catfish and okra gumbo).
