| - I stop by this outdoorsy upscale mall occasionally, especially around Christmastime. I usually shop at Williams-Sonoma kitchen store to purchase their signature seasonal cookie cutters, as well as the sister store, Pottery Barn, for their Christmas ornaments. I also check out Macy's ornaments. Can you tell it means I (heart) Christmas [year 'round]. Wink. I also met with my older cousin who I had not met at Cheesecake Factory, where we reminisced on our family history.
The mall has a nice little 'park' to meet with a friend to have lunch with or to unwind alone. Most of the stores are high-end: Saks Fifth Avenue (that 'park' in front) for one to start with, with 'authorized' designer shops and fancy restaurants and Paradise Bakery. Fashionistas/shoppers/browsers/loungers (& kids!) are usually well-mannered and polite, and pretty much keep to themselves or chat with their own clique kind. Customer service is also usually polite and know about the products. Finally, I like that there is an Arizona Humane Society adoption center. No more puppy-mill pet stores anywhere! Dogs are permitted to walk around outside with you, which I love. There is also Friday movies at the park and whatever events the mall come up with.
Parking is free at the back of the mall or valet-park or pay to park yourself with set hour(s) (which explains why some customers are pretty rush-y). Some businesses on the premise will validate your ticket(s). Or, take public transit to avoid the hassle, of course. I miss the bygone days when you could park at the front for free unlimited, even though it was pretty hard to find space during peak times.
The exterior of the mall has changed only a bit (updates here & there with some new additions here & there) over the years and has retained most of its original charm that gives off the feel that it's designed and still here for you, the fashionista shopper. Ground-keeping is kept tidy with no litter. During the summer, the mall uses cooling misters. Crime/neighborhood is very low (if any??) so I feel safe. Stores don't have high-tech security that the corporate ones (Target, Wal-Mart, the like) boast right when you walk in. Some stores have come & gone: Three Dog Bakery (big surprise- whose franchise owners were meh), Border's, Laura Ashley, Häagen-Dazs (recently), Suzanne's (who had beautiful hard-to-find Christmas ornaments), Restoration Hardware, that rug store, some science store; yet, the mall has been good at filling the vacancies which prevents the mall from looking like it's degenerating (like many Phoenix malls). I guess having deep pockets help, I'm sure.
If you visit here, do 'chillax' and enjoy the so-called laidback environment. Remember the original Park Central Mall downtown? I'm appreciative Biltmore Fashion Park is still around...and, looking pretty much the same despite urban development all-around within the neighborhood!
