Elver is a gigantic park not too far past the west side Woodman's where it turns into McKenna Boulevard. I first came to know Elver by the yearly pilgrimage of my college pals to go sledding down its large sled hill. Sure, Bascom on a cafeteria tray is fun the first time, but once you hit the concrete walkways crossing the hills it kind of loses its luster. Elver, however, was designed for hurtling yourself downhill on a piece of molded plastic.
If you're looking to get out of the elements there's a large shelter that is reminiscent of a church that also serves as a polling place on election day.
I still have yet to make it to Elver in the warmer weather and enjoy its green expanse, as most things that are good in cold weather in Wisconsin are even nicer in warm.
