  • This has been my first experience adopting a dog, but not my first time fostering or trying to adopt a dog, and there were pros and cons. I did this at the Petco event that they hold, I did not see the actual shelter they keep the animals in. Pros: quick, easy, came with a lot of paperwork, coupons, people were friendly, seemed to have a decent sense of how to care for animals. Cons: anyone could walk off the street and get one of these dogs if they are over 18 and have a credit card. Vet check 3 days later suggested that my puppy had been given too many shots too early in life. No home visit, did not ask for references, no background check, they did not know what food the puppies were fed with their foster. I feel very fortunate that my puppy has been healthy and happy, and I love having him in my life. I hope that the few illnesses reported by others are random events that don't reflect problems with the rescue, when dealing with animals problems are bound to appear every so often. Suggestions for improvement: do a home visit, call a vet for reference, do a background check on people, don't let someone take a dog who you have never adopted to before come in and leave with a dog within an hours time. I know I'm an AMAZING pet owner, but you guys don't know that. A good pet owner will provide a house visit, reference and background check. Just ask for the info even if you don't do it. If they don't give you the info don't give them a dog.
