| - This hotel has a very strange communication problem with the rooftop bar (Merchant and Trade) and the dress code policy. As a paying guest at this hotel, I was denied access because I was wearing black sneakers. These were not raggedy torn up dirty sneakers. They were totally reasonable clean minimal sneakers. After being rejected, I sat in the hotel lobby and watched bro after bro being allowed in wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes. Come on man, shorts? Not that I care about what someone wears. Everyone should be allowed anywhere as long as they don't look like a total dipshit. But how can you deny someone wearing totally normal attire (jeans and a button down shirt), and yet allow the bro shorts brigade? The bouncer even told me the rest of my attire was totally fine. When confronting the hotel staff, they explained their strict athletic shoes policy to me. Strangely, the website states if the rest of your attire is ok, athletic shoes are tolerated. But they must be "high end" athletic shoes. What does that mean, exactly? They should look expensive? Maybe if I wore my gold plated limited edition Kim Kardashian Nike's, I would be worthy, I guess? Who knows? Correct your website. It's confusing and misleading. The classy move on behalf of the hotel staff would have been to just say "you look totally ok, and as a paying guest, we'll let you in". But nope! They stood by their strange and pretentious "shorts allowed but screw you and your sneakers" policy. I then spoke to the bar manager who promptly allowed me upstairs. As far as the website policy goes, he explained it was written by their legal department and it should probably be changed. This was confusing to me, as I don't understand what their legal department has to do with their stance on shoes. Whatever. I guess this is one of those places where you have to complain in order to get fair treatment. At least he was very pleasant and understanding.
So why didn't the hotel staff help me out and get the bar manager in the first place? Clearly there is a communication problem here. As for the rest of the hotel experience, I'll leave it up to you to check the other reviews. But perhaps you should consider their ridiculous communication problems before staying here.
