Virtual Brokers has about the worst customer service I have ever encountered. They are impossible to deal with, and charge you through the nose for everything. It's also very difficult to find out what the fees are for particular services. They seem to make it up as they go along and there's no recourse. They charge you for things which are supposed to be free - like EFT into my bank ($25 plus tax, when they claim this is a free service, and then no one on the phone knows why, and they won't do anything about it).
I used eTrade in the US for years and was very happy. Having moved to Canada, I trusted the Globe and Mail's recommendation - they rated Virtual Brokers #1. I have no idea why.
I just transferred my TFSA to QTrade - and Virtual Brokers charged almost $600 to do so. They charged a special fee to transfer every stock, and than an exorbitant overall fee for the transfer as a whole. No one can explain this to me. They are borderline criminals.
Still, they were so horrifically bad to deal with that I'm just glad to get out of their incompetent, dirty, clutches.
