  • Well, it's official. The adage "as American as apple pie" will now be changed to "as Canadian as apple pie." All thanks to Bakerbots. This place does not mess around with pie. The slices are extremely generous, the crust is so flakey and buttery it makes my mouth drop open out of surprise and anticipation. The apples are perfectly cut and seasoned. As for the pumpkin pie, that was creamy and light, too. I wanted more spice in it, though. There's a little dude who sometimes works at this place - probably around 10-12 years old? This guy can make the meanest ice cream sandwich. My partner and I got a half of one and split that, which was really more than enough. It looked like a delicious fried taco filled to the brim with awesome. We opted for the ginger cookie (thin but chewy! perfectly spiced!) with Burnt Marshmallow ice cream (not too sweet with little kicks of caramel when you need them most). Some of the best ice cream, by the way, I've had. ( Sigh. This review will a testament of my gluttony. ) So, pie. And ice cream sandwiches. We also got (on the same visit, yup) two red velvet cupcakes and French macaroons. The cupcakes were amazing. Great ratio of frosting (cream cheese heaven! a little tart with sweet - yes please) and cupcake (thick and airy at the same time - flavorful - no aftertaste of food dye, they use very little). Macaroons? My favorite was by far the Lemon out of the three I tasted. The vanilla one tasted a bit too much like two sugar cookies with vanilla creme in the center. I was most excited by the earl grey but found the way it was coupled with chocolate to be questionable. All in all, not sure if these warrant the $2 each price. Love the intimacy and charm of this place. Contemporary but welcoming. Mellow people working there (who I can only assume are also the proprietors by their general presence). Overall. Lovely lovely.
