  • This review is for the Summerlin Hospital Emergency Room. My wife brought our 4 year old child to Summerlin hospital emergency room due to high fever and suspected urinary infection. She asked them how much it would be to see the doctor and they told her "Not Much". Now, we have insurance but we also have a high deductable. My wife is from Argentina and so she doesn't know how it all works in the United States, but even as she was calling me from there I was pleading with her not to go in, but of course she was very worried about the baby and the people she talked to told her that the bill would be "not much". Well, "Not much" turned out to be just short of $2000, for a one hour visit. I know my story is nothing extraordinary for those of us who understand what an tragically stupid system we have in this country for our healthcare, but my wife had no idea and the people at the hospital took advantage of her. Despite trying to work with the hospital repeatedly to pay a more reasonable amount (say, in the $400-500 per hour range--I don't know anyone who gets paid more than that unless they are a heart surgeon!), the hospital sent the bill to collections and won't work with us except to do a 20% discount. So, I suggest trying to get your healthcare somewhere else, unless you have an insurance that actually pays for anything. Most don't these days, so maybe we should all find some back alley doctors.
