  • I usually go to Pleasant Nails down Broadway, but I was too lazy to bike the extra 5 minutes so I gave K Desert a try. A woman (I assume she was the wife of the owner) gave me a pedicure. She asked if I wanted the nails cut; I did because they were clawlike. I stopped paying attention but realized when my nails were drying that she only cut the nails on the two big toes. What the? The polish job was average. The polish was not smooth on the smaller toes; she either didn't do a good enough job trimming the cuticles or she didn't bother to file down my nail ridges. I have to give them props for the feet/leg massage. She was very thorough. While my feet were drying, the woman tried to get me to leave halfway through even though the place was empty. She tried to tell me that I couldn't wear my sandals out because they'd ruin my nails and asked if I wanted flipflops. No, I want to wear my own shoes! So I keep telling her that I want to wear my own shoes; she kept telling me I'm not allowed. After a while, she understood that I wasn't going to buy flipflops and let me stay to completely dry my nails. So to say that this place isn't the most professional would be an understatement. On top of trying to make me buy flipflops, when I was paying with a card, she pointed to a sign saying tips in cash only. So I gave her cash to make change, then gave her a tip. She proceeded to count the tip in front of me as I waited for my charge to go through. WHAT THE?! And to top of it off, I realize nail salons aren't the beacons of professional service but at least request your employees to dress appropriately. My pedicurist was wearing a very tight very low top. While she was giving me the pedicure, her boobs were about 75% out there. I had to feign like I was napping so I had an excuse not to look down. This might be a great bonus for male customers, but I don't really care to stare at another woman's breasts! In the end, I should have just biked the 1/2 mile to Pleasant, where the pedicures are the same price but the service is miles better.
