So I've waited about 20 or so days before writing a review hoping to maybe see my wife's perspective as she loved the place. I share some of her enthusiasm but on an overall scale I have to move down to "it's ok". I ordered my usual ribeye, creamed spinach, proceeded by french onion soup. Soup was good, hot, and flavorful. Not perfect but definitely good. My wife ordered the Flemings Potatoes the house specialty with cream, jalapeƱos and cheddar cheese. These arrived au gratin fashion. The jalapeƱos flavor was almost nonexistent with little to no taste. I had expected it to be bold flavor. The potatoes were a bit undercooked also. The spinach was creamy and had good flavor and the only drawback to it was the size of the portion. Portion is barely enough for two people. Steaks came in a timely fashion but when they set mine down it just didn't look great. It is said that you eat with your eyes first so when it starts off with a tad disappointment it probably affects the rest of the experience. If your first impression is "wow; that looks good" this will usually carry you through some of your idiosyncrasies you walk through the front door with. They came up short in quelling those with the steak they set in front of me. My wife had the filet. It looked good but it's a filet and it stands on its own in my experience. You can buy choice grade cut from your local grocery store butcher and it will still look good even after you've flipped it way to many times on your grill!
I've read about the service being an issue in other reviews and I believe it is a result of a "Let them Enjoy" service policy. What ends up happening instead of your waiter passing by your table while giving it the once over to see if anything is needed without being intrusive, he ends up hanging out with the other servers shooting the breeze. My empty water went unnoticed and I had to dip into my reserve which I retrieved from my wife's glass while she looked away when suddenly prompted by a phantom "you see that" look in the opposite direction! I'm not a fan of the hovering server touching something on your table every three seconds, I remember when I was a kid some long time ago, my dad took us to a restaurant in Kittery Maine called the Whistling Oyster, they had what I recall seemed like 17 servers and every time you put down your roll it was replaced with a new hot one and your glass wasn't allowed to be drunk out of without being refilled. I remember simply picking up the glass and holding it to my mouth to see if the dude was actually going to put water in a full glass. So nuisance service no, but you would like some basic professionalism and not have to suck on your ice at 200+- a dinner! The absoute highlight of the night was the floor manager who brought out our valet ticket and our car was ready when we went out the door. Kudos to him! I'll go back because my wife likes it but not before I offer up the alternatives.
