We had been to Cibo in Regent Square several times before they closed and we enjoyed dining there. We recently noticed that they had reopened, so we decided to try out this version. Brought our own wine and started off with salads. I had the romaine with Grana Padano and my wife had the mesclun with goat cheese subbing for their usual gorgonzola. Both were very good.
Next we each had a small/half order of their pastas. I had the bucatini alla matriciana and my wife had a daily special that was "little pockets" of pasta stuffed with ricotta in a creme sauce, whose name escapes me. Both were very tasty although the buccatini was hard to twirl making it a bit challenging to eat. After finishing her pasta, my wife suggested we order another small order of her pasta and share it, which we did. Usually we end up taking home leftovers, but these small/half orders were much to our liking.
After sharing her second order, we even had room for desert, and we ordered the salted caramel custard to share. It came with hazelnut shortbread cookies and a Port Wine sauce. Desert reminded us of creme brûlée, which we love, without the caramelized top with a tasty port wine sauce. The cookies were so good we bought a dozen to take home. Service was even better than the food.
Our server was very polished and attentive, and knowledgable about the preparations and ingredients. Noise level was low.
The only concern was the lack of patrons. We arrived on a Friday evening at 7:00 and from the time we got there until we left only three tables were busy. Hope word gets around and business picks up or there may not be a BYOB option in Regent Square for long.
