| - I really try to give a place several tries before giving them a poor review, in case someone was just having an off day. However this location is just a few blocks up the street from my work, so I have been here many times. It's one of the few places around to get a quick breakfast in the mornings.
The food here is consistent with any other Einstein's location. The bagels are tasty and the selection is usually very good. It's rare that they are out of anything I'm looking for. It's the service and the preparation of the food that leaves some to be desired.
On my most recent visit, there was no one in front of me in line, but it took a minute for anyone to greet me and take my order. Eventually a nice young girl asked if she could help me. She rung in my bagel with shmear fairly easily, but when I asked about ordering some heart shaped bagels for Valentines she said, "Hang on", and just walked away. (They had a sign for the heart shaped bagels right next to the order counter.) It was apparent she didn't know how to take the order.
After several minutes of waiting, there were a couple people behind me in line, so a manager came up to take their orders. My bagel order still hadn't been processed so it was still sitting on the screen and he stumbled trying to figure out what to do. I tried not to be frustrated that they still hadn't started preparing my simple order. Finally the manager pushed my order through to help the others, never acknowledging me, or trying to help the gal with my heart shaped bagel order. Instead he helped the people in line behind me while I waited. She eventually came back, looking confused, and wrote my order on the back of a wrapper. She'd write a word, then rewrite it, but since she was writing with a sharpie, I am still not certain they got the order correct.
Finally after taking my Valentine's Day order, I was able to move down the line and pay for my bagel. I got there and the manager helped me pay. He was quick but not friendly. As soon as I was finished paying, before I could even put my debit card back in my wallet he was ringing up the person behind me, which bugged me a bit because I hadn't even moved yet. Thankfully, my bagel with shmear was ready shortly after I paid. It was delicious and warm, just like I hoped it would be- but it also looked as if someone had sat on it... (see my photo). It didn't change the taste of the food, but it did make me question why I keep coming back here. If you don't mind flat bagels, or poor service the food here is great!
