This is absolutely the most wonderful part of Cleveland. You REALY get a sense of community and feel like you're a part of history. The array of vegetables, fruits, meats, dairies, and international foods is out of this world.
Every stand is full of vendors who really care about their products and the people who are buying them. They are always happy to
help, and *REMEMBER* they expect you to bargain!! You don't have to accept the first price they throw at you.
When I have visitors from out of town, I make sure to take them to the West Side Market so they understand and feel the heartbeat of Cleveland. I allow them to pick out their own foods and I prepare them a wonderful meal with the ingredients they've chosen.
Very proud to have this gem so near my home-- I'm actually heading there tomorrow for my food for the rest of the week. Who gets excited to go grocery shopping? When it's somewhere as beautiful as the WSM, you can't help but look forward to coming back time and time again.
******THINGS TO REMEMBER:
1.) bring cash! A lot of the stands don't accept credit, and if they do they usually have a ten dollar minimum.
2.) bring your own non-plastic shopping bags. They usually appreciate it and it's good for the environment.
3.) Don't be afraid to bargain. They will usually accept your offer as long as it's fair.
4.) when you enter the WSM, look up. The ceiling is beautiful! Enjoy!
