  • This was the final stop on the Yelp Cupcake Crawl. I don't have a great sweet tooth, and cupcakes are not my dessert of choice, but I picked up a six-pack ($15, full-sized) to serve to guests later in the evening. I will rank them from most to least favorite: 1. Guinness Chocolate: "A chocolate cupcake flavoured with Guinness beer, filled with an Irish whiskey chocolate ganache and topped with cream cheese frosting and chocolate shavings." Apparently, I have the taste buds of a man because this is one of the specialty "mancakes" and it was my ideal cupcake; not too sweet with a hint of booze, the ganache filling keeps it moist and I much prefer the tangy cream cheese frosting to its waxy, cloying buttercream cousin. 2. Lemon Meringue: the tartness offsets the sweetness, and I loved the homemade lemon curd filling and crunchy toasted meringue frosting 3. Red Velvet: It's not a deep red because they use cocoa instead of artificial dyes; highlights were the moist cake, chocolate ganache filling and cream cheese frosting 4. Maple Bacon: Meh. It had way too much maple frosting for me; sounds good in theory but, personally, if I wanted bacon, I'd have it with eggs or lettuce & tomato between two slices of bread--not a blueberry-filled cupcake. 5. Stout Spice: This was like a miniature fruit cake. You will either love it or hate it. Unfortunately, for me it was the latter. (The sixth flavor was Caramel Apple but my guests polished it off before I could sample it!) I SHOULD ALSO TELL YOU: - They have over 25 flavors that you can order online at http://fortheloveofcake.ca/order/ - Each flavor is also available in a mini size ($10 for 6). - The six-pack comes with a legend complete with photos and descriptions. - They will stamp the legend for each flavor you buy (full-sized only, I believe); when you've tried them all you get a free six-pack. - This place is hard to find but listen for the chorus of "Hi-ya!"; it's located across the way from a karate studio. - They make custom cakes like the ones on display: soccer ball or high-heeled shoe for your next World Cup-Sex in the City gathering. - Their butter tart cupcake has raisins. - I'm in the midst of a diabetic coma.
