After reading the reviews and speaking with several local moving companies we decided to hire Champion Movers. Most of the house was pre-packed & moved to a storage unit so only the washer/dryer, furniture, & a half-dozen miscellaneous boxes needed to be loaded on the truck.
The two gentlemen called prior to arrival & seemed very nice, although as the loading progressed I wondered about their experience. It seemed they were loading the truck long and not high. The care of the furniture was questionable. My dresser is solid wood, 9 drawers, & 72" long. Since the operator assured me I didn't have to empty the drawers, it was quite heavy. The movers wrapped the dresser to keep the drawers intact. They moved the dresser end over end, like a 72" domino! While attempting to move a precious large plant they destroyed one limb. When they attempted to move the second similar plant one guy was trying to be careful and wrapped it tightly to the pole with half a roll of packing tape!
As the loading of the truck winds down the guys say they need to stop at the gas station. I left someone else in charge of following the truck and I proceeded to the new place. When the truck arrived they were instructed to move the furniture into the den and garage. I discover two gauges in my solid oak table and one stated how they only slid the wood curio cabinet on top. WHY?
The guys were paid $500+ and left. We didn't receive a receipt so my son went to meet the truck down the street. Second call from the movers was to inform me they forgot to charge me for the mattress pads. My son gave them $25 cash for one and the driver said I could mail them the money for the second pad. HELLO but the cost I was quoted for the pads was $7.50 each!
Upon return to the old place, I find furniture remaining. I call Champion and their trucks are too busy but they'll call by 5pm to schedule for tomorrow (Friday). Guess what, nothing. Call again Saturday and the girl says they are busy for days and won't be able to come back until the end of next week! With no alternatives I was forced to hire another to finish the move.
As we unpack the damages continue to mount up. 3-weeks later and no calls or follow-up emails. It's time to move the boxed household items from the storage unit and we're certainly not calling Champion for the job.
