Subaru of Las Vegas are sleazy liars. DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE. We went in today and were pretty interested. The salesperson kept insisting that we ought to test drive the car we had the most interest in - and so we decided to give it a try.
Then came the snag.
According to the salesperson "BY LAW AND DMV REQUIREMENT THEY MUST SCAN MY DRIVER'S LICENSE BEFORE THE TEST DRIVE". This is neither law nor a DMV requirement - it is a sleaze ball tactic to (a) pressure you when you demand return of your driver's license, and (b) to pull an unauthorized credit report on you while you're away.
DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THESE PEOPLE. Shut them down. No matter how good the car is, it is only as good as the trustworthiness of the people you buy it from. These people will tell you anything they think you want to hear - AND BOLDLY LIE - counting on your stupidity. They're playing you for suckers.
Incidentally, although I am not a lawyer, my wife's brother is married to one. He also says that car dealerships are notorious for their employee turnover, and the security of private identification information is notoriously porous. If you want your identity stolen - TEST DRIVE A CAR AT SUBARU OF LAS VEGAS.
Incidentally - we then went to one of the four local Honda Dealerships - they were completely content with taking a look at my driver's license and insurance card in the parking lot - no need to scan or photocopy and no utter lies about the law or the DMV requirements.
Cheers
