| - I am a loyal Marriott Rewards member, and after spending my first trip to Charlotte in another hotel brand I figured it would be best to get back to a Marriott property for my second trip. To be totally honest I picked this hotel during a recent business trip due to its proximity to my office, and if you are a Marriott Rewards member you are in luck because there are three properties all close by.
The hotel itself wasn't bad, in fact the grounds were clean, staff was friendly, and the room was more than accommodating. In fact the elevators were out being worked on, and they only had one of the two working during my stay, so much to my surprise I received a letter informing my of bonus Marriott points and complimentary snacks available on various levels of the hotel, even though I was on the ground floor they still extended the offer to me which was awesome of the property management. My problem was that this property seemed dated and could use a bit of sprucing up. The hotel itself is nice, with a large courtyard surrounded by rooms on all sides, some with walk out patios and others with balconies overlooking the courtyard.
I arrived late, however the staff already had my room key ready thanks to my mobile check-in. While I didn't have any problems or delays with my express check in, I do wish that Marriott would finally adopt the Digital Room Key available in other brands and allow me to go directly to my room without having to check in first.
My room was nice, in fact I believe I was upgraded to a suite even thought I was still only at the Silver Marriott Rewards level, kudos to the staff for the complimentary upgrade. The room itself was large however the bathroom was extremely small, and hardly had enough room for the shower and toilet. I found this ironic because the Living Room area was excessively large almost to the point of being awkwardly large however it did have a fridge and microwave yet no sink. To be totally honest with you aside from using the fridge to store a bottle or two of water I spent most of my time in the bedroom after a long day. The bedroom, much like the living room was large, and offered more than enough room for storing your suitcase without it getting in the way. The bed itself was comfortable and the pillows were actually quite nice for hotel pillows.
Overall my stay here was fine, however after staying at the Embassy Suites just a few miles away I have to say that I am starting to reconsider my Marriott loyalty, maybe I will try another Marriott property nearby in the future.
