| - What's not to love about Wrigleyville West?
As a lifelong Chicagoan (save for 6 months, when, ironically, I lived in nearby Scottsdale), attending a Cubs' Spring Training game was an absolute must-do on a trip to AZ. In fact, we scheduled our trip around the game.
It certainly felt like "home." From the rabid fans, Chicago-centric food, nearby streets Clark, Waveland, and Sheffield, and a come-from-behind flurry of RBI's from the home team to tie the game in the 9th, this place has it all, whether you're a ride-or-die, or a more casual fan.
Seats are pretty cheap, at least compared to Wrigley Field, and if you're lucky, you can buy a lawn seat for a song, and then mosey around to find a better seat. Chances are you won't be stopped if you look like you belong.
Cubs of yore are there selling balls, jerseys, and keepsakes available to autograph. We purchased a baseball and got a pic with Fergie Jenkins, who played with the Cubs twice ('66-'73, and '82-'83). He's a cool cat. I was also pleased to see Bill Buckner, who I remember well from the 80s.
The only bummer about Spring Training is that when the 9th inning is over, it's really over. The Cubs fought back from being down 9-2 to tie it, and I would have loved to have seen them get the "W." Alas, in Spring Training, there is nothing at stake since the games do not officially count in the standings.
If you're a baseball or Cubs fan, this is fun and inexpensive way to enjoy a game.
