| - If you want to pretend that goats love you for a little bit, this is the place to go. Lionel's Farm has been a staple of Markham ever since I can remember. This is one of the best petting zoos I've ever had the pleasure of visiting time and time again and I recommend it for everyone.
This year they've imposed a $2 admission fee. It used to be free and a donation box was put outside, but I respect them with this move. Before you come, bring foods such as apples, carrots, bread, and lettuce as you'll be the best friend of every animal there. They have a cow, some donkeys, a few llamas, many goats and sheep (also the most violent lol), a big pig, an emu, lots of different birds, deer, chicken, 2 lazy dogs, and my very favorite: the plush brown alpaca. It's literally the cutest thing you'll ever see. At different times, different animals are more active and will come out and eat your food. Sometimes we get the pig, other times we get the cow. Not every animal is guaranteed! Since it's so laissez faire, you are in charge of your own children/self and to watch them if they do something stupid. Don't chastise the place if it's your own anxieties and rumours that are having a negative effect on you. Lionel's is great for families, but for adults it's really fun too. Could be great for dates especially if your partner loves animals.
The place is very spacious and I never felt it was crowded. You really get to spend quality time with the animals and it's up to you how long you want to stay. Its also nice how it's close to other farming places such as apple picking or farmers markets so if you're in the area you can definitely make a day trip out of it! 5/5
