| - I had tickets to Zarkana and we were looking for a quick dinner before the 7pm show on a Monday night. This restaurant happens to be right around the corner from the theather, also near Jean Georges (coincidentally we were going to look at their menu and stopped here instead) and Sirio in a great location.
We glanced at the menu and noticed that they had great tapas items on their lounge menu and decided to go in. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with wood detailing and a big, open kitchen. The long bar is located to the right, with booth seating and also some tables looking out to the walkway (where we sat). It seems we just beat the crowd! We were quickly approached by our waitress, who was very friendly and also notified us that it was happy hour (SCORE!), and the items we were already looking at were further discounted to $5 each. Double score! They also had discounted drinks, wine and beer. She also gave us their dinner menu and a pre-theater menu, which was 3 courses for $49 each. That looked good, but I am not sure we had time for it. I ordered a glass of Cava from the happy hour menu. It was decent.
Everything we ordered was tapas style and shared between 2 people. We got fish and chips, tuna tartare, prime rib sandwich, truffled mac n cheese, and the lobster roll. Everything came out together, which was wonderful
Fish and chips: The batter was amazing. It was not greasy at all and was perfectly crispy and delicious. The fries were not so great, but fries are fries and they were OK.
Lobster roll: It wasn't really a "roll." New Englanders would die if they saw this little thing. It was served more on a small crostini. But they did not skrimp on the lobster meat, and it was really tasty.
Truffled mac n cheese: Probably my least favorite item. It was good, but a little too runny for my taste. The sauce just wasn't thick enough. Also, it had peas in it, and that kind of threw me off a bit. But the flavor was decent.
Prime rib sandwich: This was really good. Again, not really a "sandwich," but it was 2 halves of larger bread with fresh sliced beef. The bread had some sort of horseradish mayo on it and the beef had a little bit of greens on top with a slice of tomato. It was delicious. it was obvious the beef was made in house (I think).
Tuna tartare: This was by far my favorite item. There were small, round pieces of bread with little clumps of tuna that were perfect. They had a slight citrus flavor to them. They were heaven!!
Each item was only $5 and were served quickly, so it was the perfect pre-show meal. We even had time to add a mascarpone cheesecake to top it off. It was served with a blueberry compote on the side.
Near the end of the meal, the service was a bit slow, but the lounge and bar were totally full and it was just before show time, so the 1 waitress was very busy, so I understand. I can't wait to come back again and try the full menu!
