  • (The continuing story of a yelp-loving couple seeking great locally owned joints, friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere for playing Magic the Gathering...) NOTE: Do NOT confuse the little tiny kinda scary joint on Broadway and 27th ish street with this place. They had a BIG sign that said "Teax BBQ" so I got confused. We almost ordered but I just felt like this was NOT the place, so we left and I found it. SOOOO glad we did! Ok, so when I asked my husband for his rating of this place...he Stood Up and shot me a 5-Finger Salute. *lol* His new FAVORITE BBQ joint. I must say, as a native Phoenician with no real experience with regional BBQs, I thought the food was top notch. I just didn't have small kittens like my hubby... :) We ordered... - Moist Beef Brisket (5/5 - yum! I never knew beef could be so moist and flavorful WITHOUT any BBQ dripping over it!) - Creamed Corn (DH said it was done right like his Grandma used to do it. First time I have EVER eaten creamed corn...and liked it. I will actually order it next time.) - Mac & Cheese (Just good ole creamy mac & cheese. Wanted way more...) - Banana Pudding (VERY homemade. Big chunks of banana in a creamy yummy pudding with 2 like Nila wafers and a big dollop of whipped cream. We split and DH thought it was delish) - Pecan Pie (pretty good as well. Not life changing but solid) - Sweet Teas (Diabetic Warning! This sh_t it SO sweet, *I* did NOT get a refill! I mean, it was totally yummy...but I started to feel my system balk at the suger overload....which means my southern DH thought it was made just right :P) The white bread slices straight outta the bag struck me as hilarious but again, DH thought it was even more authentic due to it (and the country music, which he was digging. Even I tapped a toe along). The staff was super friendly and the small shop (seats outside as well though) was very comfortable for playing MTG. They are located in an area some might consider "Sketchy" but I bet the building (which looks new or renovated and is lovely btw) was affordable for them! PS: Anyone in need of a relaxer or a fade - they are connected to a salon/barber shop which was nice looking and the barber had a line so good sign! Seriously good eats. Keep them in business. I am NOT a big meat eater and I already know my next meal! MTG Score: DH 3 / Me 0
