  • Updated Review Nov 9th/2017 I'm very pleased with my follow up visit to NC Salon. Thankfully the manager immediately responded to my previous Yelp review and kindly offered to help me with my hair color dilemma. I was also directed to the services of Raymond who is a Master colorist and Director of hair color at NC Salon and offered a color correction gratis to compensate for the previously undesirable/underwhelming color job Raymond was demonstratively patient and detail oriented and clearly is dedicated to the art and careful techniques of bleaching, balayage and color tone correction and watching him work I liken him to a hair magician, color alchemist and all around maestro, he really has a solid understanding of hair coloring especially difficult Asian hair and made sure all processes would deliver the color toning that I wanted without sacrificing the health of my hair.   He also has a wonderfully gentle and respectful chairside manner and REALLY LISTENED to what I wanted the finished hair color to look like while being honest about what to expect.  Not once did I feel rushed and every single staff member at NC Salon from the receptionist to the assisting stylists were amazing and very accommodating and made sure every aspect of my appointment was perfect.  My advice to anyone wanting a hair color service that involves drastic color change at ANY salon is to please, please take your time and make sure you do your homework when choosing a stylist and especially if you're undergoing any process involving bleach or Balayage type hair color, don't just rely solely on Instagram images, and make sure your appointment is made EARLY in the day as I feel like my first appointment and the unsatisfactory result at NC Salon may have been attributed to starting later in the afternoon.  Yes I do recommend NC Salon if you choose the right colorist or stylist that works well with you and communicates clearly to achieve your hair goals. I am thankful that someone as phenomenally gifted as Raymond was able to help me overcome my hair color dilemma and vastly improve my overall experience at NC Salon  Original Review July 2017 I'm extremely unhappy with the balayage process I had done with NC salon as the salon charged an OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF $700 for hair color that still had brassy patches even worse is after my experience I found out OTHER CLIENTS HAVE BEEN CHARGED MUCH LESS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROCESS!!!??? https://goo.gl/RsJGuU I had admired the beautiful hair images on NC Salon's Instagram which was my first mistake as I found out later how manipulated the images are and I rationalized that because the salon specializes in coloring Asian hair and because of all the great Yelp reviews that my hair would be in good hands here but...boy was I wrong!  I was helped by a very nice colorist who I believe was not the owner of the salon, but one of the senior stylists. The process itself took over 5 hours of foiling, bleaching, shampooing, toning and Olaplex treatments to help keep the integrity of healthy hair but I'm not sure it helped much as my hair is now a frizzy mess. As the colorist was wrapping up my balayage session with a blow dry I was a little concerned as there was brassy redness near my roots and orange patches where my hair was once black, I had casually brought this up but the stylist just dismissed it as weird lighting???  After the blow dry and curling the colorist was making a fuss about taking pictures for his Instagram so I complied but I couldn't help noticing how perfect my hair looked in his pictures when in reality there were red and orange patches of brassiness that were COMPLETELY EDITED OUT OF THE PICTURE!   By the time I went to pay I was feeling so confused but at the same time felt a bit bad for the colorist as he did work hard (with the help of an assistant) take over 5 hours to color my hair but looking back I should have made a commotion as my hair now looks like it was colored at a budget salon like First Choice and not at all at a high end salon that charges $700!!!!!!!! As you can see by the before/after pictures in a very short span of 3 weeks the color has degraded considerably fast given that A) I properly conditioned my hair before the process, my hair was in great condition 80% virgin hair and 20% coloured ends B) after the color I've carefully only used gentle sulfate free shampoos once a week and deep conditioned and toned using purple hued products to try to revive the color  I have had my hair previously bleached and dyed in the past so I'm well aware that the hair changes color and texture after a process but NEVER have I had COLOR FADE WITHIN ONLY 3 WEEKS  My advice is to proceed with extreme caution when getting your hair colored at NC Salon. Do your research but DO NOT GET THIRST TRAPPED by their beautiful images on NC Salons Instagram!
