| - Nordstrom Rack, Anthropologie, and occasionally Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor Rack, Macy's have literally been the only stores I've shopped in the past 7-8 years. Nordstrom Rack is my go-to, where I buy 80% of all my clothes--wherever in the U.S. I have lived, wherever I have traveled for business or pleasure.
Or it *WAS* my go-to. No more...
Since around Christmas 2017, the quality, selection, taste levels, variety, sophistication started slipping. Previously you could get the highest quality, most current, absolutely best designers available from Nordstrom Rack. I have purchased $300 and $400 designer dresses and jackets, $200 top of the line gorgeous tops and pants, etc. etc.---for anywhere from $30 to $100. No more.
Now---since late 2017---the place feels a bit like TJ Maxx, or lower. Lower, even, than Kohl's. Racks with identical, cheaply made, tacky, grotesque taste, bad fabrics, vulgar clothing. And fewer racks than always in that past. And racks for high-end brands are gone, or now a tiny little section.
And the clientele seems to be shifting. Twice when I've been there, there've been packs of (sorry, it's just true) loud, lowbrow people, waddling around, shouting back and forth to one another, trying on clothes in the middle of the store, not saying excuse me or making eye contact when passing....almost like the Walmart set. Nordstrom Rack clientele was always pleasant, you'd chat with other shoppers, but now people are pawing through "Bargain Racks" with $15 crop tops.
The staff is always super helpful, polite, and hard-working. But they, too, seem a bit disappointed by the shift in the types of clothes being brought in.
I've spoken with other shoppers recently, and we're all leaving disappointed and empty-handed or with 1 item, instead of customarily having so many things you'd like to buy and picking 3, 4, 5 items.
Last Friday after work I stopped by hoping something had changed, and I could quickly grab a cute new dress for Saturday. I found absolutely zero that was appealing.
I spoke with a manager--and learned Nordstrom Rack just changed their buyer.
For just Vegas, or all over? I'm not sure. But whomever that buyer is-----it seems someone with pretty mainstream/cheap tastes, on the par with Target. Actually that's not fair to Target---significantly less tasteful than Target.
This past year I have bought a lot of clothes--and have gone to Nordstrom rack at least twice a month, sometimes weekly, to pick up a few cute new tops or outfits. I don't know where I'm going to shop anymore. And I can't see Nordstrom Rack lasting more than a couple of years if they stay on this current track.
