For three years I've been back and forth between Boston and Toronto (personal not business), and this airline was the best experience I've had flying, because:
- Wait times are much less (90 at Logan, 60 at BBTCA)
- No US customs before the flight! (Aside - as a new US PR, I was able to enjoy the quicker US Citizen's line at Logan, which was nice)
- Canadian customs at Billy Bishop Airport is smaller, but there are fewer people waiting.
- The free shortest-ferry-in-the-world adds some travel time, but with the frequent shuttle bus between Union Station (Royal York hotel) and the ferry, accessing the airport from North Toronto (Wilson Station) by public transit took an hour total. Wow. Bye bye 401 Traffic. In fact, for this trip we used both MBTA and TTC, and it worked so smoothly I could barely believe it.
- Prices are decent like JetBlue out of Buffalo, without the drive to Buffalo.
- Free drinks on board AND in the Billy Bishop Lounge. The lounge was nice, and the coffee cups were non-disposable! The attendant gave me one and a half cans on the plane. They use glass instead of plastic for drinks. Kudos.
- On the way back (the emptier flight), we got a dinner-time sandwich with potato salad. It was a little dry, but it was a nice touch.
- The plane was comfortable whether full or nearly empty. We had both. The Sat AM flight was full, the Tues PM flight had maybe 10/75 people on it.
- The attendants were super-helpful and super-hot.
- The prop plane, the ability to see the ground the entire way, was awesome. We experienced turbulence, probably more than in a large plane, but I'm not terrified of this so to me it added to the fun of the experience.
Bottom line: when I fly Boston to Toronto, I will use Porter.
