I went here last week on a Sunday afternoon. The place was easy to find and there's plenty of parking in the area.
When I first walked in, I really liked their modern decor. The place was very clean. White countertops offering hightop and lower bar seating. It's not super huge so it's not a place for large group settings. They were playing sort of edm/trap/house music. Not obnoxiously loud or anything, I mean it was still day light when I went. It was pretty quiet, only a party of four dining when we walked in. So I'm glad there wasn't a wait.
So to start I am not a shabu shabu expert so the server gave us the run down. There were only two servers working when we were eating there and both were really nice and friendly.
They have a selection of meats to choose from angus beef, pork, and even vegetarian options. After choosing the meat you chose your soup base or sauce. The server said the most popular was the sukiyaki which is a sweeter flavor and it comes with pasteurized egg for dipping (I was weirded out at first). I got the pork kurobuta lunch portion with the spicy miso. Mine came in a choice of sauces, I got the goma and the swisher. My boyfriend got the sukiyaki (he's such a follower lol) with the combo which includes the yojie cut of angus beef and your choice of another meat, he got pork belly. All the entrees come with a bowl of mixed veggies and udon. You also get a bowl of rice, which I think was free refills.
The spicy miso is where it's at! It went so well with pork and then I dipped in the swisher sauce. I tried the sukiyaki as well which was pretty tasty with the beef and the egg was ok it's just still weird to me. For me in a soup lover and sukiyaki is just so sweet I can't slurp that for too long. Even my boyfriend was so jealous because the spicy miso was better than his sukiyaki. I made a soup with my veggies and udon. It was perfect for this cold weather. Between the pork belly and kurobuta, I prefer the kurobuta. The angus beef was ok to me it wasn't anything to wow about.
It can be a little pricey for the amount of meat you get especially if you don't do a combo option but for me I ate all my veggies and udon so I felt full. A good thing to do is if you're dining with another person is to get one combo and then one regular portion, then split it.
