| - I used to get my organic goodies at Strawberry Fields, but after graduating and moving out to Adult World (i. e. the suburbs, far away from campus), I got tired of driving all the way across town just to get groceries. One day, I stumbled upon this little treasure. All the organic/health food is in one corner of the store, the result being that you can just get in, grab your groceries, and go. Some might complain about the lack of selection, but I think having a small area is great. Other local stores carry organic food, but it's scattered around the store and mixed in with the regular food, meaning that you still have to scour the store to find what you want. IGA is quick, easy, and friendly, and for that reason I like it.
Other pluses include the best selection of organic produce this side of campus, and the "hippie" element is reduced because most of the people shopping at IGA aren't college students. The health food section also includes a decent selection of supplements, great (and reasonably priced) bulk bins, and non-food items, including natural soaps, shampoos, and other personal care items.
I'm only giving it four stars because it does tend to be more expensive than other places, and the selection is limited. You can use the HVC card to get extra discounts, but those discounts hardly ever apply to organic or health food. (When they do, though, it's awesome). Also, the produce should be inspected before being purchased; sometimes the organic varieties aren't as fresh as the non-organic varieties. This isn't IGA's fault, as I have found the situation far worse at other local grocery stores (Meijer, I'm looking at you....). All in all, it's a great place to go if you don't mind spending a few extra pennies for the convenience of having a decent selection of health food contained in a small area.
