  • I have mad love for downtown. Part of that love is nostalgia. There is my own personal nostalgia, and nostalgia for historic Las Vegas. The owners of the Golden Gate decided to preserve history at 1 Fremont Street. They went the other way when they acquired Fitzgerald's. I like that people are interested in downtown and willing to put money into its improvement. I want it to continue to grow and evolve. However, I think it would be tragic if my downtown Vegas got Nerfed. Downtown is 'come as you are.' That makes me happy. I've observed that there are two poles of intention with night life. People want to have a good time and/or to see and be seen. The spirit of downtown is very much the former in my opinion. People shed their dignity on Fremont Street, unload their self-consciousness, and commune with their fellow humans. If it becomes more like the strip, expensive, stratified, and snobby, then there's no point in going downtown. I think The D or D's or whatever sounds like an attempt to be modern and edgy. Whatever that means. It sounds temporary to me.
