  • Hello Yelpers! Located on the "wrong end" of the Las Vegas Strip (all the way past the Stratosphere), this is the old Sahara Hotel, first resurrected and then lost by gadabout Sam Nazarian. Now an SPG (Sheraton Group) property it is the SLS Hotel with a W Hotel hidden inside of it. For SPG members like me (who want to use points or earn points, and hopefully get upgraded at check-in), we have slim pickings in the Vegas strip area. It's either the Westin (servicable but boring, off the Strip behind Bally's), or the SLS/W properties. It's W for the gold! To get a feel for both (because they are essentially the same property), I stayed in both. The SLS is a dud, with uncomfortable 'upgraded' small rooms and a disinterested front desk staff. As I mentioned, the W is "inside" the SLS, so just head down the hallway to a fantastic bar and lobby, a completely different front-desk, and an awesome check-in experience. What a difference! Super upgrade without asking and coins for a cool fortune-telling machine. My two-room suite was super fun, with giant oilcloth murals draped on the walls for a tromp l'oeil effect (not a "boner killer" as described by another reviewer). Minus one star because the W has made its property virtually inaccessible to Uber/Lyft drivers. Not sure if this is to satisfy the mighty Las Vegas taxicab lobby, which worked unsuccessfully to keep Uber and Lyft out, but rideshare services are prohibited from pulling up to the hotel front door as taxis can. Drivers never know exactly where to go and it is extremely frustrating. Don't give in to the taxis, though! They are indeed the worst. But the W is a hit.
