| - Would the phrase 'colossal disappointment' be overstating it? I am a huge Cleveland fan, and among the top reasons why is the city's culinary scene. As a Lakewood resident, one genre that's been missing, though, is sushi. I was so excited when I heard Voodoo was opening here, and I counted down the days until I could try it.
And then I did. :/
If you can navigate the entrance (we counted six parties who all made the same mistake as we did), you'll probably find that the service is fine -- not remarkable, mind you, but fine by Lakewood hipster standards. And if you're like us, the menu will raise an eyebrow. The big disappointment will hit home, however, when the pre-frozen veggie egg rolls or when the sushi rolls -- which I would guess are 50% rice, if not more -- are placed in front of you. To boot, the fish itself (yellowtail, to be specific) was not at all fresh and, as a lover of raw fish, just not enjoyable. I would equate their rolls to a plastic-boxed $6 sushi offering at your local grocery store.
On the bright side, this gives us a closer location to get some good sake.
Lakewood is rife with foodies, so it's probably not the best place to trial an underwhelming sushi joint. Up your game, Voodoo, and we will be frequent patrons.
