  • This facility is very nice but I recently canceled my membership and switched to another gym. Here's why: 1. If you have kids, this place is great. Very family friendly. Lots of activities for families and kids are allowed in the open gym (even when the sheet says adults only for that period of time...). That's great.. if you're a kid or a parent. If you're NOT, though, it's a pain. This place gets PACKED with families and it can be irritating if you're trying to play basketball in the gym or just get around quickly. I've had to push my way through crowds before just to get upstairs. 2. Adding to that point, it's almost always crowded. It did not die down after New Years. I had to wait to use equipment most days that I went, which isn't a huge deal but it's just worth noting. This place is big but it's not big enough for how many members they have. 3. This is not a cheap gym. $40/person or $60/couple. Not sure what the family rates are. You do get what you pay for because they have a lot of nice things (sauna, pool, gym space, etc.) but if you don't USE all of those things, you're paying a lot to use a treadmill. And wait for said treadmill.. Staff is always friendly but I just got really sick of dealing with the crowds. The equipment is nice, many machines have their own TV (which sometimes don't work but get fixed quickly). It gets hot in there but that's not a dealbreaker. I just got fed up with the fact that it was always so full. My boyfriend got sick of wanting to play basketball and being stuck playing with highschoolers (there are a LOT of highschoolers here, which is fine but just not ideal if you're older than that) or not being able to play at all because it was so packed. The gym also gets booked for other activities often. We always had to park so far back because of the full parking lot. Just lots of little irritating things that added up to us getting sick of this place after 6 months. We switched to Fitworks in Rocky River because the classes are free with a membership and it's only $25/mo. I have never had to wait to use equipment there. No pool or open gym there so it just depends on what you plan on doing at your gym. This YMCA is a very nice building and if it fits your needs, you'll enjoy it. But if you want something more basic and less crowded, this gym might not be the right one for you.
