After much anticipation, the Uncle Tetsu's Unionville Cafe is now open. I happened across this soft opening as I was hunting for Pokemon for my hubby on Unionville Main Street and noticed that there were people lining up inside. At the time I went (8:20pm), there was not nearly the long lineup that I had previously seen at the downtown shops when they first opened, which was more incentive for me to check them out.
The space is currently only open for takeout. There are other rooms in the cafe but they were cordoned off and despite the fancy crystal light fixtures, the overall space felt unfinished.
Their current offerings are the original cheesecake, as well as their honey and matcha madeleines. Cash only. Be forewarned that the bake time for a batch of cheesecakes is about 20 minutes, but they only accept a few orders at a time. Also the store policy is that you must wait in store for your cakes and present your receipt (which seemed to infuriate the patrons waiting after me in line).
One definite benefit of having Uncle Tetsu's close to home is that the cheesecake is still warm and fluffy when I finally sit down to eat it in the comfort of my home. As a result, I enjoyed the taste and texture of the original Tetsu cheesecake this time around more so than when these cakes were purchased and brought home from downtown.
Because of their convenient location, I may return at another time after their grand opening to see what the entire space looks like. To all others, exercise patience as there will be a wait!
