  • My mom and her girlfriends have been addicted to JLM facials for a long time. Well, my mom decides to treat the two of us to their Girl's Day Out treatment (thanks mom!) in April. I had not had a facial in 2 years because the last experience left me with whacked out skin for over 4 months. Never again, I promised myself. But after months of cajoling and the girls promising me that my tender hide would be fine, I agreed to go. My first impression is that the place is quiet, serene, and very much like a little old fashioned boutique. Very cozy. Callie, the woman at the front desk, is so nice. The rooms are small and warm and comfortable. The robe I was given had a broken string so I asked for another. They're pretty damn big, so even when I pulled the string as tight as it would go, I still had to hold it up. Alas, they're just boobs. And I'm sure my aesthetician has seen plenty. For my first appointment, I had an aesthetician that will remain nameless. She asked if I had any preferences, and I just adamantly told her that my skin was sensitive. She asked if I wanted an eyebrow wax since it comes with the treatment but I just had one a few days prior. Then she asked if I'd like a collagen treatment as one of the included enhancements, as she said it would plump my skin and make it look youthful. Say whut? I frequently get mistaken for a high school kid (I'm in my mid-twenties), what with my baby face and penchant for batman t-shirts. My face needs zero plumping. This made me wonder if she was really knowledgeable about skin and tailoring for the specific types. Moving on. The treatment started with some washing and massaging of the face, neck, and chest. This made me glad I took a shower just prior to the treatment. She used a Clarisonic to wash my face, which hurt my cheeks (told you I had sensitive skin) and I don't think she used the sensitive brush head, since I have a Clarisonic and the sensitive brush does not cause a problem. Shortly thereafter she put a hot towel infused with peppermint essential oil on my face. My cheeks were on FIRE. I told her and she immediately took the towel off, rinsed my cheeks with water, and applied aloe. Crisis averted. Gotta say, I did warn her haha. The extractions were gentle and quick. I had no idea she was doing them until I asked. See, I come from the old school European facial camp, where they will push, press, squeeze, and needle until you walk out of there with every pore purged. Cool, but uncomfortable. And you walk out looking like a hot mess of pink splotches. I walked out of JLM looking like a glowy, porcelain princess. That being said, when I went home, I saw some obvious blackheads that were not extracted. Booo. -- Since that first treatment, I switched aestheticians and have being going to Suzy. To put it succinctly: Suzy is the Queen Mother of all aestheticians past, present, and future. I have been going to her every month since May and I have an appointment booked out with her every month for a year in advance. THAT is how much I love that woman. She knows my skin like it's her own, and it looks and feels incredible all the time. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. Furthermore, the prices are reasonable, particularly since I do their Skin Fitness Program. I pay $100/month for these epic 2 hour facials with free microdermabrasion. Something like that would easily cost $200+ in a Vegas hotel spa, or $300+ in LA. If I could give JLM and Suzy 62719464536 stars, I totally would.
