| - So, you say it's a "man's world". Well, not if you shop at DNA Cycles in Phoenix. Before I go into my story, let me say I've given this store a fair amount of business, with mixed customer service. Some has been great. Some has been horrible. I went into the shop in Nov of 2014 to buy a new road bike from them. I got such an 'I'm superior' attitude (that is often found with 40-year-old men that still sell bikes for a living) that I walked out of the store and bought my bike else where.
This time I had to ship a wheelset I sold on Ebay. I've always walked into a bike shop, asked them for an old cardboard box, and they were more than happy to find one for me. On this occasion I sent my wife to the shop to grab a box for me on her way back from the gym next door. She returned with one and told me how nice they were at the store. How they showed her to the back where a bunch of empty boxes where and asked her, "how many do you need?" I needed two, but she only grabbed one.
I returned less than an hour later to grab a second box. When I told an employee what I needed and why, he said, "we don't give boxes out. We only provide them to people that need to ship stuff they sell online." I told him that's exactly what I needed it for. He then changed his tune and said, "we only give them to people shipping whole bikes." I went back and forth with him for about a minute and figured out he wasn't giving up any of the boxes he was about to toss in the trash.
Before leaving, I chuckled and let him know my wife walked into the store not 45 minutes ago and was told she could take all the boxes she needed. I guess when you are female, attractive and wearing yoga clothes, the service is AAA at DNA. If you're an average looking dude, not wearing yoga pants, it's a whole different story. After I said that, the employee just sort of looked at me. I just gave him a 'nice doing business with you . . . I won't in the future.'
Customer service is truly dead . . . unless you have boobs and a pair of yoga pants on . . . at least at DNA. There are lots of super friendly bike stores in town. Go to one of them, because this is not one.
