| - Wow, just really wonderful food! Heard they are a well established restaurant here in Madison and I am excited because I would like to frequent this place often! Came in for a nice dinner last night and was thoroughly impressed on all aspects of cuisine and service. We enjoyed a nice Albarino out of Spain, a very simple $25 bottle that was light, crisp, dry with notes of pear and honey. I really enjoyed it and I am not much of a white drinker. The server had no knowledge of proper wine service, but that isn't really her fault if she wasn't trained, however her demeanor and other service points were spot on and I found her attentive and pleasant. Now on to the food...
For appetizers we had the Aguadito de pollo, a very nice cilantro based, broth soup with pea, carrots, rice and chicken. I love cilantro so this was right up my alley. The price of $8 seemed high when I read the menu description, but then when it came I understood it was because it came in a bowl bigger than the size of head. It was clear that I had over ordered on all aspects of my meal, but I didn't care because I was just fantastic. Other appetizers were the Machuppicchu and Tamal Peruano. The Machuppicchu was an avocado stuffed with shrimp, cheese and a cream sauce. Delicious, but turned out not to be my favorite aspect of the meal. The Tamal Peruano was like a pork flavored corn tamale that was also stuffed with pork. It came with a small side of red onions and cilantro that had a slight vinegar flavor to the. I love these types of accouterments. Easily my favorite appetizer and very small (price point only $5). I wish I had ordered three of them. As for the main courses, I could not have been happier. I ordered the Arroz con Mariscos which was similar to a paella style dish. The red chili pepper base was fantastic and not very spicy. It was loaded with seafood, including calamari, shrimp, a bit of crab leg and mussels. The beauty of the dish was also striking as they main garnish, flavor component was a giant colossal shrimp with head attached. The dish was also accompanied by the onion/cilantro garnish which I devoured along with most of my meal. I would have finished it all, but I was so full. It was worth the price of $24. My dining companion had Seco de cordero, which was tender lamb chunks that marinated in cilantro and beer. It was served with beans and white rice. I had a small bite and found it flavorful, but enjoyed my meal more. However, my companion enjoyed their meal more, so it was a win-win for everyone involved. I don't usually order dessert, but felt a full representation was due considering I knew I was going to write a fully positive review. We ordered the Delicia andina which is a mousse of lucuma (Peruvian fruit). It tasted a bit like caramel, but more distinct. Very hard to adequately describe, but I was in love. Fantastic meal overall and I look forward to go in for lunch and seeing was else they have to offer (smaller portions mean I get to try more items)!
