DO NOT LET ANYONE YOU KNOW OR LOVE GO HERE!!!
I was a patient who was admitted involuntarily after going to the emergency room at a hospital following a panic situation which was brought on by my being an assault victim. The hospital gave me a couple of places that I could be transferred to and I picked Oasis because of the name Oasis. HUGE MISTAKE!!! Months prior I had been violently assaulted on my head and had suffered life threatening injuries with an acute subdural hematoma and extreme hearing loss along with multiple fractures to my head. I was extremely depressed and had worked myself into a panic because I didn't know how I was going to support myself.
There is no counseling, therapy or any type of treatment other than parking you in front of a blaring television and giving you lots of drugs. The doctors, if you can call them that are uncaring and hurried. Since they knew I was extremely hard of hearing due to the violent assault to my head they thought I couldn't hear them and I heard them gossiping about me within a few feet of me. The staff is equally uncaring and treat you like a prisoner. I stayed isolated in my room and no one ever came in to me and asked what they could do to help or if I needed to talk to someone.
The cafeteria is abominable. The food is bare sustenance. It was paltry rations of horrible food. The cafeteria women slop the food at you and never ever make eye contact. They act like you're a nuisance.
They completely misdiagnosed me as being bipolar when I was extremely depressed and PTSD. I stayed holed up in my room partly because I couldn't hear and communicate with people because of my hearing loss and party because I was depressed. That's not bipolar.
It gets even worse. I had been there a week and my daughter had a very important appointment with a neurologist she was going to take me to. They filled me daughter's head with their belief that I needed to be committed as a ward of the state. Against their suggestion, my daughter discharged me. When I was leaving I told one of the "guards" (staff member) that you treat people like prisoners here. She kind of made a weird face. She probably hadn't been told that to her face before, nonetheless by a patient. They all but forced me to sign SMI (Seriously Mentally Ill) papers because they told me they could help me with housing. So I did unbelievably to get into housing.
I am back to being perfectly normal other than my physical problems that being extreme hearing loss and headaches due to the assault.
And to think that I could have been made a ward of the state at the hands of these goons still makes me shudder. These people have an extreme amount of control over your life and you are at their mercy, which there is none.
Read the reviews on Google, there are a lot of them that are equally scathing of Oasis. I had been to St. Luke's in Phoenix some months prior for extreme depression. They are much better although not perfect and the food is stellar, although that's not what you're going there for but it shows they care. The doctors are very thorough at St. Luke's and they have some groups.
