| - Having watched a lot of Kitchen Nightmare shows that Gordon Ramsay host, he always talks about standards of the food served at restaurants. My wife and I ordered the Yorkshire Ale Batter Fish and Chips, Chicken Lollipops, and the English Ale Onion Soup. The names were very creative, but unfortunately, the food was not all that great. The fish for the fish and chips were NOT hot and flaky like you'd expect on a fresh battered fish. It came off like frozen fish. The fries were not quite as crunchy as you'd expect. It was slightly soggy and the standards just were not there. Definitely not what you would expect when paying for a $28 fish and chip basket. The onion soup was just another french onion soup in the guise of great marketing. As for the chicken lollipops, they tasted like frozen wings that were not fried crispy and the wing sauce was super salty. I had to drown the wings' saltiness with a good helping of the bleu cheese sauce and the peeled veggies next to it.
The decor was a mixed bag. There was nothing all that special about the decor. They had stacked beer kegs and chairs with his dogs on them. I would've expected a little more wood to make it look a little more authentic pub and modernize the furnishings.
At the end of our dinner service, our tab came out to about $110, and we gave the server a $100 VISA gift card and a $20 bill and explained to him to only charge a $100 and take the rest, The guy clearly understood what I told him, and came back saying he tried charging $100 and then $90 but it declined. LIES! I checked my balance on the card when I got back to my hotel room later, and he had charged $120 the first time, and then $115 just to make me use another form of payment. I gave him my regular credit card, but that was just poor service, and didn't appreciate the lying from the server.
All in all, dinner service from the food to the service was subpar. I was really disappointed going into what I thought would be an enjoyable experience. Even if the experience was not the best, I wouldn't give a star on here, but the subpar food, and the server being dishonest just killed it for me at the end of it all. Look through the rest of the reviews for this place. The reviews speak for themselves as to the disappointment from many diners. I can't in good conscience recommend this place, and I can't believe that Gordon Ramsay would appreciate what's going on at this restaurant with his branding on it.
